Learning To Color

We are trying to really start teaching them new things. We have been pushing new words everyday. Ethan loves to talk. He will repeat anything we say. Peyton is trying to repeat what we say. Sydney has her own language. It is so funny. We will say something like "ball". She will come back and say something that isn't even close to that. She has whole conversations with herself and the other kids. She knows what she is saying too. Landon does a little mimicking. He gets the basics. Jenna won't say a word. That girl will watch your mouth so closely, but won't utter a sound. When she is doing her own thing she will chatter away, but she isn't saying words at all.
We sat them at their table the other day. I got the crayons and paper out. That lasted about 5 minutes. At least we tried. They want to eat the crayons. Peyton picks up on coloring very quickly. It is neat to see how each of the kids learn. Ethan can say anything, but still can't figure out how to climb on the couch. Peyton can figure out how to do something on the first try, but doesn't talk much. Sydney is the copycat. She follows the others around watching them play with a toy then takes it from them so she can do what they were doing. She doesn't know how to pick a toy up and use her imagination to play with it. Landon is a mixture of Peyton and Jenna. He is somewhat involved, but not too much. Jenna is our stubborn one. I hope this isn't foreshadowing to the future. She won't do anything we want her to do. It is like she knows she is being stubborn. She just looks at us with her big brown eyes and goes on about her business.
This is a piece of chalk. It was sitting on top of their house they play in. I think it got knocked off one day. I found pieces of chalk throughout the living room one day. I also found pieces in Jenna and Landon's mouths. Landon will eat anything. We were at grandpa Bob and grandma Esther's a month or so ago. Landon had something green in his mouth and I thought it was part of a green bean. They were canning that day. Later we found a cucumber with a big chunk out of it. He had taken a bite. Saturday, they got baths and the boys snuck back into the bathroom. We have to pull the door shut really tight or it won't latch. It was a good 10 minutes before I realized they were missing. I went into the bathroom and they had taken everything out from the drawers and under the sink. Landon had taken a bite out of a new bar of soap with the paper still on it. I guess he liked it because he didn't complain. Oh well, just another day in the life of the Wright Quintuplets!

An Evening To Remember!

Tonight was the best evening I have had in a very long time. My mom had the kids today and I got to spend some time with another MOM in Evansville. When I went to pick the kids up they were ready to go. When we got home I took them straight from the van to their stroller. I was trying to keep the evening somewhat stress free. Plus, Rob did lots of cleaning today and I wanted it to last until tomorrow at least. So, we went on a long walk. They love walks. I got back to the house about 6:30 and got them settled. I got things unloaded and put away for a few minutes while they got reacquainted with the living room. It's amazing how happy they are to come home from being away for a day. About 6:45 I went in there and sat on the floor for a few minutes. It wasn't long and Landon was coming to me with his silky and begging to cuddle. I never let him down in that area. He is my only cuddler therefore, I take every opportunity I can get. He was exhausted. He was really ready to go to sleep so I put him in bed at 7:10. He is our only kid who genuinely loves sleeping. He runs to his bed at nap and bed time. After I got him settled I went out to play with the others. Peyton was in the goofiest mood I have ever seen. I was sitting on the floor against the couch. He was running from me to the gate at the TV and back again. I would catch him in my arms and kiss him and he couldn't control his laughter. In between trips Syd would fling herself backwards for me to catch her and flip her over. Ethan was taking his turn running into my arms and Jenna was playing quitely by herself on the riding toys. I was giving out all the kisses I could before they took off. Peyton has figured out how to kiss (kind of). He had his mouth open and I would push my cheek up to his mouth. He would crack up! I started turning my head back and forth so he was kissing both cheeks. He was laughing so hard! He then noticed that it was even more fun to stick his tongue out while I was turning my face back and forth. Before I was a mom I never thought I would enjoy being licked by my kids. It was so funny. Gross, but funny. They all went to bed happy and exhausted. Tonight was a snapshot of what I always wanted my life to be like (unfortunately Rob was at work). No one was fighting, crying, sick or hungry. Everyone was happy and I was their favorite person in the whole world.

Update...

Our lives are very crazy. Who would have thought that? Anyway, we always have just put whatever bib was closest on the kids. That meant that the boys got girl bibs sometimes and the girls got boy bibs sometimes. The other day Rob had Landon in his chair for lunch and put a bib on him. For the first time, it seemed funny that we did that to him. I guess they are getting to big for the wrong bibs. At least it is great blackmail for later on.

I spent an entire day trying to hunt this little guy down in the living room. I couldn't believe it when I saw him scampering across the floor. My first attempt failed. I was chasing him around like I was going to just pick him up with my hands. No way! Once I had him cornered I didn't have anything to get him with. I saw him a few times later in the day. Luckily the kids never saw him or caught him. After the kids went to bed I found him again. This time I was ready. Cute little guy. I hope he found his way home.

Yesterday we had a kids day after church. They had inflatables and grilled out. So, trying to create more memories, we hauled their highchairs and everything we would need to make it through. The kids did great. Here is a video of them in the inflatable. Ethan, Sydney, and Peyton really got into it. Landon wasn't too impressed, and Jenna liked crawling around in there. They did great considering their nap was postponed for about an hour. Ethan was asleep before we got home.

I forgot to mention what happened before church yesterday. If you all liked my previous post This Week In A Nutshell you will love this. Ethan was too hungry to wait for breakfast. He had his meal early. I had to cut his shirt off of him because the poop was everywhere. Everything he was wearing went into the trash. Things never get boring around here.

So, I posted the above pictures earlier today. I was in the boys room later this afternoon sitting in the glider. I got to looking and saw something next to the wall by Ethan's bed. As I got closer I saw it. It looks like a cat pooped on the floor. We don't have a cat!! Somehow he pooped out of his bed. The weird thing is that everything came out of the top of his diaper. It looks like someone poured the poop out of the bed. Nothing was on his bed like that. I have no idea how he did it. But it was now about 36 hours old and hard. It took a scotch brite sponge and lots of Resolve to clean this mess up. They amaze me everyday. If it isn't one thing it's another.

Road Trip!

We got up early on Friday to head to St. Louis. My mom, dad, sisters Kate and Jacie, and brother Lee left on Thursday. My other sister Mandy and brother-in-law Kevin also went on Thursday. We all met at the zoo. The kids did really well on the way there. We ate a picnic lunch before we went into the zoo. The highlight of the day was the children's zoo where they had a little water area for the kids to run. As you can see, Sydney and Peyton enjoyed it thoroughly. I had everyone get together for a group picture. I didn't realize I was standing right over one of the water spouts. It shot up right as I was getting ready to take the picture. Needless to say, I looked like I had wet myself for the next 30 minutes. It gave everyone watching us a good laugh. We also went to the petting zoo. Sydney wasn't too sure about touching the goats unless no one was around. Jenna didn't want to have anything to do with the goats. Landon was a little scared too. Peyton would have rode on their backs if we would have let him. Ethan liked them too. After the zoo we went back to the hotel and they got to explore the room for an hour or so. The best part of that was the mirror. It was hilarious watching Ethan make his faces. After that we went to Home Town Buffet before heading home. That was the first time we have ever taken the kids to a restaurant. They ate lots of spaghetti and pudding. We headed home about 7:00 and Ethan cried for 2 hours. It was awful!!! We got home about 9:45 and the kids went straight to bed. It was a quick trip. The kids aren't quite old enough to care about the animals yet. It was nice to have our entire family together.

Picnic At Burdette Park!

Yesterday we went to Burdette Park for Rob's work picnic. We took them to the Aquatic Center and let them play in the splash park. I didn't know how they would do because they don't like their little pool here at home. They loved it! I was shocked. Sydney would walk under the water and just stand there. It was so funny. They did so good! After that we took them to the pavilion to eat. It was hot and humid and they took everything in stride and enjoyed it. I think they were asleep about 5 minutes after they got into the van. Times like this make me think that things will get easier. We will be going to St. Louis this Friday. Stay tuned for the play-by-play.

Hanging Out At Home!

It's business as usual around the Wright household. After we got past the puking and pooping we still had to stay home because we gave it to everyone we came into contact with. Somehow I managed to get through without getting it. Since then, a lot has been going on. As sad as this sounds, we had our first family meal the other day. We never have sat down and eaten with the kids. It takes our full attention to get the kids fed. I made cavatini and we all had our own plate and sat at our table for dinner. It went really smoothly. We have only done that one other time, but at things get easier maybe we will have more family meals. We also baby-proofed the kitchen and boy's room. They didn't know what to do with themselves. We have since then closed the kitchen off and only let them in occasionally. It didn't take them long to figure out that they could hold on to my legs and cry while I was making their food. Ethan discovered the dryer. Rob sat him in it and he loved it. We also figured out how to wrap the kids so they can't get out. They are so cute. I didn't know if I was going to make it through this last bout of sickness. Things didn't get back to normal until about Wednesday this week. Check out our fun pictures below of recent events.
